Local artisan markets are always appealing to me. Guests from the USA took me to the basket shop today. When they said there would be several baskets, I had no idea what they really meant.
We were greeted by ladies trimming baskets.
There were several rooms stacked to the ceiling with bags of various sizes and colors.
I had one of the bags that I selected made into a purse by these gentlemen.
This was such a fun trip, and I was quite pleased with my selections when I returned home. I've already had occasion to gift two of these, so a return trip is a must!

I haven't posted much since arriving in Kenya almost two weeks ago, but we are here and doing quite well. We have even made the initial adjustments to living at high altitude. We are in temporary housing on the mission compound, until we are able to move in to the house assigned to us in a couple of weeks. Our colleagues have been very welcoming, hosting us for meals and taking us about town to acclimate ourselves to our surroundings. We look forward to engaging the Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) and finding our place of service as we settle into life in Nairobi. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this transition.

This gadget is a lifesaver. It takes electricity that is supposed to be 220v and regulates it to that voltage. As you can see from the photo, the current coming in was only 180v, but the regulator converted it to the required 220v. Only minutes before the input had fluctuated between 135 and 170. At these levels many appliances will not work, though plugged in to the correct outlets. We have lived where you had to have surge protectors because the power comes in over 220v and burns out devices, but I guess we have never lived where the power does not come in strong enough. Well, now we do!
Problems solved for my microwave, crock pot, and gas clothes dryer. Life just keeps getting better!

When we were so sick, neither of us wanted to eat, but we both knew that we needed to. I'm not sure why I picked this time to try a new taste treat, but I did. This is what you get when you mix tomato bouillon cubes with macaroni. I was hungry enough that it tasted good. Gaylord was not quite there yet!
I fought the flu, and the flu won! Gaylord and I have both been sick most of the week and hardly able to get out of bed. I started feeling bad first and took a round of malaria meds. They didn't help a bit, so we're guessing flu. Any scratches and bruises are compliments of passing out on the kitchen floor. Prayers appreciated.
