the fish lady just came by with the largest fresh red snapper and casava fish we have ever seen...this guy yielded enough fillets for two layers..a perk to living so close to the ocean...especially since she cleans them...

Eye Exam
I recently had reason to go see an ophthalmologist. Because of Ebola, it is necessary to have your temperature taken and registered upon entry to many public places, especially healthcare facilities.
This is what the eye exam looked like in this setting.
These are my official medical records, complete with prescription for artificial tears, which, by the way, I have not been able to find here.
The doctor was very competent, and the concern was minor, so I left more relieved than when I arrived.

chirp, chirp...
did you have one of these christmas ornaments in your home growing up?
we did. though i liked it, many times i thought to myself that no bird
really chirped like that. i was wrong. there is a bird right outside
my window that sounds EXACTLY like that electronic bird. the main
difference is that this one does not have a chord to unplug. remember
how annoying that sound could be after a while? i do!

umbrella, anyone?
why yes, those are umbrellas all over my new pajama pants...because you always need an extra umbrella or two in liberia :)
christmas already? na...
i think i got my christmas tree up before you did yours! actually, i
found a fabric at the market that i thought would make a good tablecloth
for christmas season, and i had enough fabric to make a tree skirt (or in this case coffee table cover as well).
i remember buying this cheesy little tree to bring to liberia. it is perfect! i don't even have to disassemble for storage, so it is tucked away nicely until december.

New Community A/G–Virginia
October 18, 2015, we preached at a church located not very far from where we live. It was nice not to travel quite so far for service, and we had a great day of ministry with Pastor Edward and Mot Stephens, despite the heavy rain storm during and after service.
This young man, Alfred, is one of our Bible school students at LAGBC. He serves on staff here. It was nice to observe him in ministry.
Aren’t these cute little faces. They were taking in all of the service, especially the guests.
It was so hot before the rain started. I knew how these ladies felt.

Philadelphia A/G–Gardnersville
Last month we had a service cancelled due to rain. We re-scheduled for October 11, 2015. This day was "dry" enough for service. I can only imagine when it was too "wet".You may find the first several pictures to be annoying, but they are included for realism. These were taken on the drive to/from church. This is how it is for months here during rainy season, and the people must carry on with daily life and activities.
We finally made it to the church site and discovered that the congregation currently meets in this screened-in-porch area of a business. We were met quite happily by Pastor Natusla Numu and his wife.
After service, the group took us outside to see the beginning of their new building project and shared the need for assistance in purchasing roofing materials. Some might question building a church in such as swampy area, but much of the city is swampy, and this is where the people live, so that is where the church needs to be. May God bless them for their determination to provide a church in this challenging location.
